STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

  1. Expand market share of Malawian products and services both domestically and internationally;

  2. Create conducive environment for the effective and efficient operation of trade; and

  3. Create a competitive export sector.


STRATEGIES

Domestic Trade

  1. Provide market support to local producers;

  2. Implement the Decentralization Program;

  3. Ensure adequate supply of essential commodities throughout the country;

  4. Create synergies among local producers to strengthen supply chain;

  5. Enhance business skills and technical competency for the local business community;

  6. Enhance skills in trade information dissemination;

  7. Improve effectiveness, efficiency and legality in the conduct of trade;

  8. Enhance orderly trading through policy and legislative instruments;

  9. Protect and safeguard interests and rights of consumers from the negative impacts of trade liberalization; and,

  10. Enhance the buy Malawian campaign.

Foreign trade

  1. Develop and improve market accessibility for traditional/non traditional exports;

  2. Secure Malawi's interests bilaterally, regionally and multilaterally in trade agreements;

  3. Promote and develop exports and undertake trade extension services in collaboration with the Malawi Export Promotion Council (MEPC) and the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI);

  4. Improve trade policy and the regulatory environment;

  5. Enhance trade policy dialogue;

  6. Generate and supply trade information;

  7. Enhance support to foreign trade missions; and,

  8. Develop a National Export Strategy.
