STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
- Expand market share of Malawian products and services both
domestically and internationally;
- Create conducive environment for the effective and efficient
operation of trade; and
- Create a competitive export sector.
STRATEGIES
Domestic Trade
- Provide market support to local producers;
- Implement the Decentralization Program;
- Ensure adequate supply of essential commodities throughout
the country;
- Create synergies among local producers to strengthen supply
chain;
- Enhance business skills and technical competency for the
local business community;
- Enhance skills in trade information dissemination;
- Improve effectiveness, efficiency and legality in the conduct
of trade;
- Enhance orderly trading through policy and legislative instruments;
- Protect and safeguard interests and rights of consumers from
the negative impacts of trade liberalization; and,
- Enhance the buy Malawian campaign.
Foreign trade
- Develop and improve market accessibility for traditional/non
traditional exports;
- Secure Malawi's interests bilaterally, regionally and multilaterally
in trade agreements;
- Promote and develop exports and undertake trade extension
services in collaboration with the Malawi Export Promotion Council
(MEPC) and the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce
and Industry (MCCCI);
- Improve trade policy and the regulatory environment;
- Enhance trade policy dialogue;
- Generate and supply trade information;
- Enhance support to foreign trade missions; and,
- Develop a National Export Strategy.
